The Joker (Greece Powerball) draw machine doesn’t know what came out last Tuesday. Every ball has the same 1 in 9 chance of being drawn in any given draw (5 of 45 main balls is 11.11%). That probability doesn’t move because a number has been hot, cold, or absent for 200 draws.
This is the most often forgotten fact about lottery games. Every draw is what statisticians call an independent event. The next draw is a fresh shake of the balls regardless of what 3,000 previous draws looked like.
If a number has come up 12 times in the last 30 draws while another has come up twice, the hot one feels like it’s about to land again. That feeling has a name: the hot-hand bias.
A 2023 Cambridge study analysed hundreds of millions of lottery entries across 118 draws. People pick winning combinations from recent draws far more often than chance would predict, following a logarithmic decay curve (R2 = 0.656). The effect lasts for years. People remember six-number combinations that won in the past and assume they carry momentum into the next draw.
They don’t. The machine doesn’t remember.
The mirror-image bias is the gambler’s fallacy: if a number hasn’t shown up in a while, surely it’s “due.” The same Cambridge study measured this. After a number is drawn, the money bet on it drops sharply, and players avoid it for the next four or five draws before betting drifts back to normal.
Both intuitions are wrong. The just-drawn number has no penalty for the next draw. The number that’s been missing for 50 draws has no advantage. They both have the same 1 in 9 chance.
They describe history. They don’t describe what’s about to happen.
The “hot numbers” view tells you which balls came up most often in the time window you pick. The “cold numbers” view shows the opposite. “Overdue” highlights balls that have gone the longest without showing. “Top pairs” surfaces two-ball combinations that have appeared together most often. All useful for understanding what the archive looks like. None of them tell you anything about Tuesday’s draw.
We publish them anyway because they describe the past honestly. Lottery sites that hide these are hiding data players already want to see. We’d rather show it with the math explained alongside.
Scroll the homepage and you’ll find the “frequency converging to chance” chart. It plots the observed appearance rate of a single number across the entire archive of 3,113 draws. Early on it’s noisy. Some numbers show in 18% of draws, others in 4%. As the archive grows, the line drifts toward 11.11%, the theoretical probability.
That’s the law of large numbers. Short windows produce wild variance. Long ones converge.

What the model does well is generate curated number sets that match the long-run distribution properties of past draws (sum, odd/even balance, decade spread). If you’re going to play anyway, it gives you a starting point that doesn’t skew obviously off the average. It doesn’t make you any more likely to win.
Treat the picks the same way you treat the analytics: an interesting way to look at the data.
